Founded in 2003 IN THE PALACE is a renowned international festival dedicated to the promotion of short films, new media and digital arts up to 27 minutes in length.

The main purpose of the Festival is to present and promote the contemporary short film art from Bulgaria, Europe, and the world. In 2017 IN THE PALACE received an EFFE Festival Label fromThe European Festivals Association, and with the most recent edition, it also holds the honor of being approved by the OSCAR® Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to choose a number of eligible films for their consideration in the categories of Best Animation, Best Fiction and Best National Film of the Academy Awards® and Student Academy Awards® as well.

IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival provides an exceptionally favorable platform for the expressions of both young directors and established professionals. Founded in 2003, the festival has grown from a competitive forum for student films into the largest and most prestigious short film festival in Bulgaria and the region.

Tsanko Vasilev

(Festival Director)

Tsanko Vasilev holds a Master degree in Cultural Management and Audiovisual Communication and a Bachelor degree in Cinema and TV Directing. He is a sought lecturer for many festivals in Bulgaria and abroad. He has led various educational programs for young film professionals in film producing, creative industries and entrepreneurship. Tsanko Vasilev is a producer of shorts, feature films, documentaries and music videos and also is the founder and director of IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival (Bulgaria). He is a co-founder and board member of the Bulgarian Festival Association. He has been a jury member for a number of festivals in Europe and beyond.
